Jade Mark B. Capiñanes is a Davao-based fictionist, humorist, and satirist. He is the author of the bestseller flash-fiction collection How to Grieve.

Capiñanes graduated in 2017 from the Mindanao State University-General Santos City, where he finished his bachelor’s degree in English and won for Best Thesis in Literature as well as the University Distinction Award for Journalism. For a short time after finishing his undergraduate studies, he taught creative writing to senior high school students in Davao City. He is currently pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing degree at the De La Salle University.

His works of flash-fiction and satire are widely circulated on social media, often reaching viral status. He cites Raymond Carver, David Foster Wallace, Richard Brautigan, and Milan Kundera as influences on his writing, which follow the literary concepts of Minimalism and New Sincerity.

Throughout his current writing career, Capiñanes has joined several writing programs such as the Davao Writers Workshop in 2016, the University of Santo Tomas National Writers Workshop in 2017, the Ateneo National Writers Workshop in 2019, and the Iyas La Salle National Writers Workshop in 2023. He is now a member of the Davao Writers Guild.

Aside from How to Grieve, one of his notable works include his personal essay titled “A Portrait of a Young Man as a Banak” which won third prize in the essay category of 67th the Don Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature in 2017.
