Vladimeir B. Gonzales

Vladimeir B. Gonzales is a playwright and professor at the University of the Philippines (UP), where he teaches courses on creative writing, literature, and popular culture.

He was a fellow in several creative writing workshops, such as the UP National Writers Workshop in 2002 and 2009, as well as the Iyas La Salle National Writers’ Workshop and the Iligan National Writers Workshop both in 2005.

Gonzales is among the writers of Dulaang UP’s Rizal X in 2011, and he has translated and adapted several plays: Elevator Action, an adaptation of The Dumb Waiter, in 2012; Pitong Patibong, an adaptation of The Seven Deadly Sins of the Bourgeoisie, and Adarna, an adaptation of Ibong Adarna, in 2013; Mal, from Euripides’ The Trojan Women, in 2014 and 2017; Meta: Mga Aralin sa Pagsasalaysay, featuring the stories of Pilandok and an adaptation of Fin Kennedy’s The Unravelling, Ang Puting Ahas, a translation of Mary Zimmerman’s The White Snake, and Deliryo sa El Niño, an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream, in 2016; Si Pilandok at ang Batang Hindi Makauwi in 2018; Ang Pitong Pagaspas ng Adarna in 2019; and Prinsipe Bahaghari, an adaptation of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s The Little Prince, in 2023.

His original play Si Nelson, ang Nanay, ang Pancit Canton was staged for the Short and Sweet Manila Festival in 2015, We Choose to Go to the Moon was staged for the Fringe Manila International Arts Festival in 2016, while Arkanghel sa Maccrotel was staged part of the launch of the Nomina Nuda Gallery in 2018.

His interests, creative works, and studies focus on translation, fan studies, video games, and theater. He is currently the deputy director of the Likhaan: UP Institute of Creative Writing.
