Dx Machina: Literature in the Time of COVID-19 is a literary anthology that collects the narratives written about and during the pandemic. We hope that the Dx Machina anthology gives readers a substantial view on how the pandemic has affected Filipino lives not just on a healthcare perspective, but also on social, economic, political, and personal levels.
This anthology brings together works from young scholars whose research interests are informed by ecocriticism rooted in the Philippine context. The need for this anthology is warranted because of two main reasons: one, publication, and therefore access, of critical works with an explicit ecocritical bent with the Philippines as its locus remains scant, and second, it is at this critical juncture in global history that environmental degradation is felt at an all-time high, without any signs of slowing down.
As such, Látag: Essays on Philippine Literature, Culture, and the Environment hopes to contribute to gaps in ecocritical scholarship in the Philippines as well as to provide measures by which critical theory can be deployed in environmental praxis, especially in a country that is designated as an ecological hotspot given our rich biodiversity and unique geography.

One of the essential differences of the mid-career focused UP National Writers Workshop (UPNWW), which began in 2006, was the inclusion of the poetics essay and presentation in its proceedings. Before then, the UPNWW operated like most writers workshops, with the creative work front and center. The focus on the individual writer and their poetics in the reformatted UPNWW admits, not only to the impossibility of holding the creative work apart from the writer and their politics, however problematic it might turn out to be, but also how essential articulating one’s intent and process is in a creative practice. The poetics essays found here are windows a beginning writer might past as they journey down the same street these writers have taken, still are taking, in their own careers. We are invited to look inside and see.
Hindi na bago sa mundo ng pelikula ang paghalaw at adaptasyon ng mga akdang pampanitikan upang kalauna’y gawing mga batayang materyal sa isinasagawang proyektong pampelikula. Itinutulak ng iba’t ibang layon, interes, at ideolohikal na posisyon ang naturang adaptasyon ng mga tekstong pampanitikan tungo sa biswal na anyo nito. Ang iba’y naglalayong muling ilapit at ipakilala ang mga tinaguriang seminal na teksto sa manonood. Ang iba nama’y tumataya lamang sa popularidad ng isang kontemporaneong teksto, nang hindi na isinasaalang-alang ang maaaring maging ambag ng sining upang higit na maunawaan ang kalagayang panlipunan o kasaysayan. Ang una ang mas makatwirang layunin kung bakit mahalaga ang mga adaptasyon ng isang teksto mula sa daigdig ng panitikan tungo sa kulturang biswal. At ang perspektibang ito ang nagtulak sa adaptasyon ng maikling kuwentong “Tanabata’s Wife” ni Sinai Hamada.
